For
you to operate a short term rental to visitors, you need a tourism
accommodation license. This is under the tourism law. No person is allowed to
operate tourist accommodation unless they are licensed by the board. In case
you operate or you attempt to operate any tourist accommodation in the Cayman
Islands when not licensed then you are guilty of an offence and you are liable
to conviction.
How to apply for a tourism
accommodation license
Before
you operate tourist Cayman Island condos for rent, you should be licensed and
it doesn’t matter whether you are operating a large hotel with multiple rooms
or a single guesthouse with one bedroom. You will need to complete an
application and submit it to the department of tourism. You will also be
required to pay the necessary fee.
The fee required for a
tourism accommodation license
Paying
application fee is a must if you want to operate tourist accommodations. You may
pay $250 if you have a 10 bedrooms facility. If your property has over 10
bedrooms then you may pay $250 with additional fees for every extra bedroom
over 10 bedrooms.
The license period
All Cayman Islands real estate rentals: cottages, apartments, villas and guesthouses should be
licensed to operate before 1st of September of each year. It is also a must for
hotels to be licensed on or before the 1st of November of each year. After
submitting your application and paid the needed fee, the department of tourism,
Cayman islands fire services and department of environmental health will come
to inspect your property before issuing a license.
